Press Release Body: Denver, CO, January 28, 2008 - Last week Westwood College Online announced the winners of its second annual Westwood Choice Online Art Contest. The goal of this contest is to engage students to show off their artistic abilities and provide them with professional experiences toward their chosen career. First, second and third place awards in addition to 6 honorable mention awards have been given to the winning contest entrants, based on votes from the student body and Westwood Online staff members.. All artwork is juried into the contest by committee including the Program Director for the Westwood School of Design.
Mara Connolly, director of Career Development Services, strives to make the Westwood College Online student experience a memorable "college" experience. She explains that by creating contests, "we provide student engagement activities that mirror the professional world and give our students the opportunity to interact visually with each other." By participating in these competitions, students learn about juried art shows and other contests which will help them succeed in the 'real world.'
Student work is featured in the Westwood Online office buildings, accompanied by a profile describing how the artwork was created, the inspiration behind the work, and how Westwood College Online has helped shape the students' career path. Connolly says, "the contest allows our students to demonstrate to us (Westwood College Online staff) why they are pursuing their degree at Westwood through their work and their personal profiles. Walking around our building and reading the stories of our students, their dreams and their struggles, inspires us all and connects us to students we generally wouldn't see. "
The deadline for submissions to the 2007 Westwood Choice Art Contest was October 28th, 2007. In addition to being displayed in the Westwood Office Buildings, all artwork, photos and electronic submissions are assembled into an online gallery for student judging and viewing. The Westwood Online staff and students submitted their votes by January 11, 2008. Contest winners were announced last week.
